Luzon Agricultural Research and Extension Center (LAREC)
Luzon Experiment Station (LES), is the largest outlying station of Philsugin situated about 91 kms northwest of Manila. A comparatively young experiment station compared to La Granja starting as a satellite station of PASUDECO with Patrocinio Dayrit as its first officer-in-charge in 1953. Activities were confined to research and extension work.
A soils laboratory was established in a one-room building situated within the mill’s premises and which was lent by the PASUMIL management.
In 1963, Philsugin bought the 256-hectare Hacienda Infante, to establish the Luzon Experiment Station engaged in multifarious activities to help the Philsugin attain its objectives.
Aside from extension work and research activities, the station started propagation of HYV’s bred in La Granja.
The Research and Development Offices were split-up into two offices in 1970-71 and was later fused back in 1975, pursuing with new vigor the Luzon Experiment Station’s objectives and high purposes.
