RDE Abstract of Completed Research
Sugarcane Pests / Herbicides
- Tolerance of Micropropagated
Plantlets of Sugarcane to Herbicides. Annual Report, SRA (LGAREC)
(2004)
- ALMODIENTE, M.C.,

-
- Four herbicide combinations were tested
on their phytotoxicity and tolerance of micropropagated plantlets
of sugarcane. Karmex + 2,4-D Command + 2, 4-D, Authority 480
SC and Sencor + 2,4-D were sprayed either as pre-emergence (2
DAP), early post-emergence (15 DAP) and late post-emergence (21
DAP).
-
- Plantlets showed bleaching of the leaves
and tips burning 2 days after spraying of the herbicides but
symptoms of injury did not progress as the canes appeared normal
after 1 month. Besides, the percentages of dead plantlets recorded
were within the acceptable plant survival rate.
-
- Karmex + 2,4-D and Sensor + 2,4-D manifested
better weed control than the other formulations. Among weed
types, grasses weighed more than broadleaf weeds and sedges.
-
- Herbicide-treated and manual-weeded plots
produced more, bigger and heavier canepoints than the unweeded
control
