1997 (B) Series

Of the eight test varieties from the 1997 Series (B), Phil 97-3501 passed the selection criteria in yield performance at Balayan and Pensumil mill districts and Phil 97-2339 in Pensumil only. Phil 97-3501 and Phil 97-2339 were resistant to downy mildew. Phil 97-2339 was resistant to smut while Phil 97-3501was susceptible. Phil 97-2339 is recommended for planting at Pensumil mill district.
 
 
1998 Series

Among the four test varieties from the 1998 series, Phil 98-1963 and Phil 98-0255 significantly outyielded in LKg/Ha the two check varieties at Balayan mill district. Phil 98-0255 is resistant to smut and downy mildew while Phil 98-1963 is susceptible to smut and downy mildew. Phil 98-0255 is recommended for planting at Balayan Mill District.
 
 
1999 Series

Of the twelve test varieties from the 1999 series, Phil 99-1549 and Phil 99-0925 passed the selection criteria in yield performance and disease rating. Phil 99-1549 significantly outyielded Phil 7544 in Pampanga and Phil 6607 in Carsumco mill district. Phil 99-0925 outyielded Phil 7544 in Pampanga mill district. Both varieties are intermediate resistant to smut and downy mildew. Phil 99-1549 is recommended for planting in Pampanga and Carsumco and Phil 99-0925 in Pampanga.None of the test varieties passed the criteria on yield performance for regional recommendation

Performance of Selected Phil and VMC Sugarcane Varieties in Luzon Mill Districts (2006)

Nine test varieties selected by SRA and VMC were laid out in Randomized Complete Block Design from November 2003 to May 2006 to determine their performance in the four mill districts of Luzon.

On LKg/Ha in the plant cane, varieties which were significantly higher than Phil 80-13  were Phil 93-1601 and VMC 97-45 at LAREC and Phil 94-0913, Phil 93-1601, Phil 90-1237 and VMCs 97-45, 97-41, 96-120, 97-30, 97-169 and 97-134 at CARSUMCO mill district. Significantly higher than the local control were Phil 93-1601 and VMC 97-45 at LAREC and Phil 93-1601. Phil 90-1237 and VMCs 97-45, 97-41 and 96-120 at CARSUMCO mill district.

 
On LKg/Ha in the ratoon cane, varieties which were significantly higher than Phil 80-13  were Phil 94-0913 at LAREC and Phil 94-0913, Phil 90-1237, VMCs 97-45, 97-41 and 96-120 at CARSUMCO mill district. Significantly higher than the local control were Phil 94-0913 and Phil 90-1237, VMC 97-45& VMC97-41 at Carsumco mill district.

Phil 1996 series

Thirteen test varieties selected by LAREC and LGAREC from the 1996 series Preliminary Yield Test were entered in the Ecological Test in four mill districts in Luzon from December 2001 to April 2005.
 
Only Phil 96-3263 passed the selection criteria on yield performance and disease rating in the plant cane. It significantly outyielded the local check variety Phil 66-07 in sugar yield in Pensumil and was rated moderately resistant to smut and downy mildew. This variety is recommended for planting in the district of Pensumil.
 
However, none passed the selection criteria for regional recommendation.
 
 
Phil 1997 series - Set A

Fourteen test varieties selected by LGAREC and LAREC from the 1997 Preliminary Yield Test were entered in the Ecological Test in four mill districts in Luzon from November 2002 to April 2005.
 
Phil 97-1391 and Phil 97-2383 passed the selection criteria in yield performance and disease rating. Phil 97-1391 significantly outyielded both check varieties in Pampanga and the local check Phil 90-1237 in Balayan. Phil 97-2383 outyielded Phil 90-1237 in Balayan. Both varieties are moderately resistant to smut and downy mildew. Phil 97-1391 is recommended for planting in Pampanga and Balayan while Phil 97-2383 is recommended for planting in Balayan.
 
Phil 97-3315, Phil 97-2041, Phil 97-1215, Phil 97-0727 and Phil 97-2039 also passed the criteria in yield performance but failed in disease reaction. These varieties are recommended for re-screening to smut using the dipping method. Varieties that passed the re-screening will be recommended for planting in the district where they outyielded either the local or standard check in sugar yield.
 
None passed the criteria for regional recommendation.

Ecological Test of Phil 1997 Series. Annual Report, SRA (LGAREC) (2004)

Seven varieties from the Phil 1997 Series were tested in the Ecological Test from November, 2003 to March, 2004 in 5 locations in Negros and Panay. Phil 8013 and Phil 8477 were used as control varieties.
 
Result of the study showed that Phil 97-0693 gave significantly higher tonnage than both control varieties Phil 8013 and Phil 8477 in 1 location but was comparable to both in 4 locations. In LKg/ TC, it significantly outyielded Phil 8477 in 2 locations but comparable in 3 locations. It was comparable in LKg/TC to Phil 9013 in all locations. In LKg/ha, it significantly outyielded Phil 8477 in 2 locations and Phil 8013 in 1 location but was comparable to both in 3 to 4 locations.
 
Phil 97-1123 significantly outyielded Phil 8477 in 2 locations and Phil 8013 in 1 location in TC/ha. It was found comparable to both control varieties in all 5 locations in Lkg/TC but significantly outyielded Phil 8477 in 3 locations and Phil 8013 in 1 location in LKg/Ha.
 
Phil 97-2041 significantly outyielded Phil 8477 and Phil 8013 in 3 locations in TC/ha but comparable to Phil 8477 and Phil 8013 in 3 to 4 locations in Lkg/TC, respectively. It significantly outyielded Phil 8477 in 3 locations and Phil 8013 in 2 locations in Lkg/ha.
 
All three selected varieties were resistant to smut and downy mildew and were recommended for further testing in the National Cooperative Test (NCT).

Ecological Tests of Phil 94-and Phil 95- Clones in Pampanga, Batangas, CARSUMCO and PENSUMIL Mill Districts . Annual Report, SRA (LAREC) (2004)

The combined ANOVA based on sugar yield means comparison by DMRT showed good performances of Phil 94-3491 in Batangas, Pampanga and CARSUMCO, Phil 94-0913 in PENSUMIL, Pampanga and CARSUMCO and Phil 94-1005 in PENSUMIL, CARSUMCO, Batangas and Pampanga mill districts.
 
Among the Phil 95- clones tested, Phil 95-1029, Phil 95-0887 and Phil 95-3877 produced higher yields in Pampanga, CARSUMCO and Batangas while Phil 95-1421 performed better in CASRSUMCO, Batangas and PENSUMIL mill districts. These selections are rated intermediate average to very highly resistant to either smut or downy mildew.

Phil '91-series ecological test (2000)

Ten test clones from the Phil '91-series selected at LGAREC and check varieties Phil 7544 and Phil 8839 were entered in the ecological test at Ibaan, Batangas and Pura, Tarlac to determine the geographical adaptability of the test clones.
 
Results of the combined ANOVA over locations based on sugar yield showed that Phil 91-1091 and Phil 91-873 were found to be geographically adapted to LAREC and Pura, Tarlac and other areas having similar geographical characteristics with that of the test sites. These clones are recommended to undergo the variety test.

Phil '92-series ecological test (2000)

Ten test clones from the Phil '92-series selected at LGAREC and check varieties Phil 7544 and Phil 8839 were entered in the ecological test at LAREC, Batangas and Tarlac to determine their geographical adaptability.
 
Results of the combined ANOVA over locations based on sugar yield showed that Phil 92-1299, Phil 92-2071, Phil 92-0051 and Phil 92-1249 were found to be geographically adapted to LAREC, Tarlac and Batangas. These clones are recommended to undergo the variety test.

Ten test clones of LGAREC-bred Phil '91-series and two check varieties were entered in the ecological test at LAREC. Two clones, Phil 91-661 and Phil 91-1091 outyielded thecheck varieties Phil 7544 and Phil 8839 while four test clones, Phil 91-873, Phil 91-661, Phil 91-985 and Phil 91-953 were comparable in terms of sugar production per hectare. These clones are recommended to undergo testing in other mill districts.

Set A. Eleven test clones selected from the Phil '92-series PYT at LGAREC and check variety Phil 8839 were entered in the ecological test using RCBD at LAREC. Four test clones Phil 92-2049, Phil 92-1251, Phil 92-525 and Phil 92-2055 gave consistently comparable tonnage (TC/Ha), sugar rendement(Lkg/TC) and sugar yield (Lkg/Ha) with Phil 88-39. These clones are recommended to undergo further variety test.
 
Set B. Nine test clones of LGAREC-selected Phil '92-series PYT and two check varieties Phil 8839 and Phil 7544 were entered in the ecological test at LAREC. The agronomic and yield test clones were comparable with the check varieties. However, there were test clones that gave comparable but higher results than Phil 8839 and comparable but lower results when compared to Phil 7544. Phil 92-1207, Phil 92-1299, Phil 92-2071, Phil 91-207 and Phil 91-1393 were higher in germination count, stalk length and TC/Ha than Phil 8839 while Phil 92-2071 was consistently higher than Phil 8839. Phil 92-1299 was consistently higher than Phil 8839 and Phil 7544. These four test clones are recommended for further testing.

Six test clones from the Phil '90-series and two check varieties were entered in the ecological test at LAREC to determine their yield performance.
 
Results of the experiment showed that Phil 90-1568, Phil 90-1368 and Phil 90-1640 gave comparable tonnage (TC/Ha) and sugar yield (Lkg/Ha) to at least one of the check varieties. These clones are recommended to undergo further variety test.

Six test clones of the LGAREC-bred Phil '90-series and two check varieties were entered in the ecological test at LAREC to determine their yield performance. Four test clones, Phil 90-799, Phil 90-505, Phil 90-745 and Phil 90-0345 gave comparable results in terms of sugar production per hectare compared to check varieties Phil 8583 and Phil 8013.

Four test clones from the Phil '88-series and check varieties Phil 7544 and Phil 8583 were entered in the ecological test at Ibaan, Batangas to determine their performance.
Results showed that in terms of tonnage and sugar yield, none of the test clones gave significantly higher or comparable yield with the check varieties. In terms of sugar rendement, only Phil 88-1691 and Phil 88-1431 gave comparable Lkg/TC with Phil 7544.

LGAREC-bred Phil '90-series ecological test at Ibaan, Batangas (1997)

Twelve test clones of LGAREC-bred Phil '90-series and two check varieties were entered in the ecological test at Ibaan, Batangas to determine their agronomic and yield performances. Two test clones, Phil 90-621 and Phil 90-745 outyielded the check varieties Phil 8583 and Phil 7544 while Phil 90-385 and Phil 90-1237 gave comparable yields. The clones are recommended to undergo further testing.

Seven test clones of the LAREC-bred Phil '91-series and check variety Phil 6607 were entered in the ecological test at LAREC, Pampanga to determine their yield performance.
Results of the experiment showed that Phil 91-50 outyielded the check variety Phil 6607 in terms of tonnage, sugar rendement and sugar yield while Phil 91-90 and Phil 91-76 gave comparable but higher tonnage and sugar yield when compared to the check variety. These varieties are recommended to undergo further variety test.

Ten test clones and two check varieties were entered in the ecological test at LAREC to determine their yield performance.
Results of the test showed that only five test clones; Phil 89-532, Phil 89-268, Phil 89-324, Phil 89-772 and Phil 89-470 were comparable in yield performance with the check varieties in terms of tonnage (TC/Ha), sugar rendement (Lkg/TC) and sugar yield (Lkg/Ha). Likewise these clones are recommended to undergo further variety testing.

Ecological test of LAREC-bred Phil '89-series at Ibaan, Batangas (1996)

Ten test clones and one check variety were laid-out in RCBD experimental design at Ibaan, Batangas to determine and compare their yield performance against a standard check.
Results of the test showed that seven test clones, Phil 89-820, Phil 89-814, Phil 89-776, Phil 89-534, Phil 89-532, Phil 89-354 and Phil 89-268 gave consistently comparable if not higher yield performance compared with the check variety Phil 7544 in terms of tonnage (TC/Ha), sugar rendement (Lkg/TC) and sugar yield (Lkg/Ha). These clones are recommended to undergo the variety test for further yield verification.
 

LGAREC-bred Phil '87 ecological test at LAREC, Floridablanca, Pampanga (1996)

Thirteen test clones from the Phil '87-series and a check variety were entered in the ecological test at LAREC to determine their yield performance.
Results showed that in terms of yield performance Phil 87-533, Phil 87-15, Phil 87-409 and Phil 87-183 were consistently comparable and were higher in tonnage (TC/Ha) and sugar yield (Lkg/Ha) than the check variety Phil 8013. These test clones are not significantly different with the check variety in sugar rendement (Lkg/TC).

Ten test clones and one check variety were entered in the ecological test at Ibaan, Batangas to determine their yield performance.

Results showed that except for tonnage (TC/Ha) all test clones were comparable with the check variety in terms of sugar rendement (Lkg/TC) and sugar yield (Lkg/Ha). Five top performers are Phil 87-985, Phil 87-957, Phil 87-733, Phil 87-409 and Phil 87-15 which were recommended to undergo further testing.

Ecological test of LAREC-bred Phil '89-series (1995)

Four test clones and two check varieties from the Phil '88 PYT at LGAREC were planted on January 1994 for ecological testing at LAREC, Floridablanca, Pampanga.
No significant differences were observed on the agronomic performance of the clones in terms of percent germination, tiller count, stalk weight and number of millable stalks. Significant differences however, were observed on stalk diameter. In stalk length and plant height, only Phil 88-1925 gave comparable stalk diameter with the check varieties. In terms of stalk length only Phil 88-0877 gave comparable performance with the check varieties while in plant height, Phil 88-0877 and Phil 88-1925 gave comparable results with the two check varieties.
In terms of yield performance results showed only Phil 88-0877 gave comparable performance with the check varieties in terms of tonnage (TC/Ha) and sugar yield (Lkg/Ha). Significant differences were observed on the sugar rendement (Lkg/TC) among the test entries.

Five selections were tested against Phil 7544 and VMC 7139. None of the varieties and VMC 7139 outyielded Phil 7544.
